Solteris 2: A Deadly Swarm

Have you ever been somewhere that seems more dream world than real? A place where the landscape stretches for miles in undulating colors reflecting warm desert sands, spiky purple sage bushes and hazy hot sunny skies…… and that’s just the flora. The fauna is what makes this land interesting because there are vamps and drachnids and gargoyles oh my!

And oh yes, there are wailing, wretched and withering Three Sisters still bickering from old jealousies and battles echoing off the hidden canyons and valleys beckoning all travelers through this mysterious land to come closer, closer still until……they die horribly at their own hands.

But there’s more!

Just over the rise between two stone pillars, stands tall and bulky, a rather large orc. Not the ordinary cave troll kinda ugly thing, oh no. This orc is HUGE and stands his ground against all comers supposedly defending his vamp master/mistress from those who seek to destroy. He poses a challenge…briefly. With an equally HUGE battle cry, a group of warriors and magic wielders rush the bum fuddled creature and lay him low.

But wait! There’s more!

This orc has friends and his friends have friends and his boss, Aprosis has friends and it becomes a free for all, battle unto death. (Not ours but theirs.) Mr. Orc falls thunderously to the ground, grains of sand flying into the air as his mighty head comes to a rest at Uugoo’s feet.

There is no time to celebrate the death of the Gatekeeper. No! The vamps are in a frenzy now, Aprosis calls them all to aid him in the battle, more gargoyles and drahcnids, teeth gnashing, claws ripping, wolves with keening howls darting in and out of the raiding party. All the while Aprosis fights desperately as magic, fire and ice rain down in a never ending deluge.

Finally, when it seems the healers may not last to keep the weary fighters on their feet and sensing the weakened resistance of the pale-faced vamp, a renewed and powerful onslaught saps the remaining fight from Aprosis. Calls for aid from the minions who would answer if they could hear that fell voice dwindle. Those before the file-toothed monster press in even more, fierce intent burning in their eyes and in their weapons.

Feeling a Throatslitter slipping in past his magical defenses and a multitude of piercings, bashings and slashes, Aprosis succumbs to the many wounds and slumps abruptly to the ground next to the fallen Gatekeeper. Cheers and self-congratulations resounding from the heart of Pak echoed and then faded as the vamp fell.

Grats to:

On a side note we also killed some more fabled, of which the most fun was probably The Rathe Council and the Avatar of Earth.

Fabled Earthen Bile
Fabled Chestguard of Earthen Marble

Grats to all those that won these and all the other fabled loot that we got in the past month!

Happy 9th anniversary Everquest

It all began for me way back when in the Spring of 1999 when a colleague at work told me about this online fantasy roleplaying game that he started playing.  Heck we had all played the single player games like Ultima, Warcraft, and Pool of Radiance.  Even dabbled with LAN games on the company netword with Doom and Starcraft.  So when he told me about this game and the ability to play with hundreds if not thousands of folks it was something I had never heard before and began a new generation of fantasy games for me.  Other games have come and gone but this one stuck.  Who knew that 9 years ago when I started this game that I would still be playing.  Through the many expansions, dungeon crawls, dragons, gods, epics, guilds folding, people leaving, people coming back that this game would still be around.  Maybe its not as strong or hold as many people as it did on its hayday, but the one thing above all that has kept this game strong is the many friendships that have formed.  Its the community within the game that has kept it alive and kicking.  So again, Happy b-day EQ.

Well as is customary the past couple of years, with each anniversary SoE gives us a new incentive to hit old zones that we might not have seen in a long long time, or one that we've wished that we'd never see again.  It brings back some old favorites or some old mobs we hated with every fiber of our being.  SoE powers these mobs up, upgrades their loot tables and gives them "Fabled" status.  So to pay homage to these new fabled mobs we decided to give them a visit.  There were so many that we killed and so much loot that we got, there was no easy way to do it justice for this update.  Here is a simple montage to give you an idea of our travels the past week:

And here is some of the loot that we acquired as a result:

Fabled Amulet of Crystal Dreams Fabled Veteran's Battle Charm
Fabled Cap of Flowing Time Fabled War Charm of Crossed Blades
Fabled Armguards of the Brute Fabled Blade of War
Fabled Shining Crimson Shawl Fabled Boots of the WarMaster
Fabled Decayed Shoes of the Plaguebringer Fabled radiant mask of the Disease Lord
Fabled Earring of Unseen Horrors

Well this is just a start and with weeks still to go on the Fabled sightings I'm sure this is just a small taste of everything we will be getting our hands into.

PoP was a very special time for us here in Pak.  Even though I joined at the tail end of us doing PoP I still recall many fond memories and folks have spoken about the awesome run that Pak had during this time period.  So in memory I went back into the archives and pulled back some old pictures from the era and linked them on the page here.  Some fond memories indeed, but can someone tell what the heck is Rasil doing in every single screenshot?
