On another board I've been reading for a few years, one of the regulars has been having a rough time, both as a result of bad choices and bad luck. Lost his job and his apartment. Fighting an addiction to pain medication from a torn meniscus. Works two part-time jobs and lives in his car while trying to pay off court debts (related to the addiction). Apparently this is an improvement over living at home with his (drug-addicted) family.
I'm not making the guy out to be a saint; he's definitely made some bad choices. But he also never victimized himself or laid blame on anyone else for his situation. He's stayed positive and upbeat and out of trouble. He logs in every couple days to let his friends know that he's okay and, at this point, almost has his debts paid off so he can get a new place.
One of the posters suggested he go out and give away free hugs as a way to get his mind of things.
This was the result:

In his own words:
I'm soooooooo glad you suggested I go and give hugs.
I had no idea what to expect. I've never hugged so many people in one day in my life. Wow. I got a great response.
One lady was walking with her husband and her 2 teenage kids, and her little boy. The mom gave me a hug. She asks, "Now why did we just hug?" I explained my situation.
Her and her husband turned to her kids, "Well kids, let's go, give the man a hug". I was blown away by the affection. It was very touching.
I was surprised by the number of people who literally RAN into my arms.
It was a day & an experience that I will never forget.
If you enjoy the video half as much as I enjoyed making it, I'll be happy.
Thank you!
